Dawn Berkshire

We are very pleased to welcome Dawn Berkshire to Pine Orchard Road. This is Dawn's first move from her family home. Dawn is an ambitious woman who works three jobs; office assistance at PAL, stocking at Walgreen's and assembly for Tiffany's. Dawn is active in her community belonging to a bowling league and volunteering at Sunday School for her church. She is a wonderful and positive person who is a great addition to our organization.
Happenings
On May 3rd family members, Direct Support Professionals and people supported by Avatar participated in a Kent County Legislative Forum. We joined more than three hundred stakeholders in meeting with legislators to discuss the potential impact of budget cuts on developmentally disabled Rhode Islanders.
We were especially proud of John Sullivan who was a featured speaker at this event. He spoke about reduced hours for support staff and the impact
this could have on his success in his job.

Thank you to all who participated!
Happenings
Hiring practices at Avatar reflect our dedication to individualized, quality services. Initially, all applicants are carefully screened by our Human Resource Coordinator. If after this interview they appear a good match, the next phase of our hiring process includes extensive reference and background checks and a follow up interview with a Residential Director. Once this phase is finished, the most critical piece of our process is scheduled, where the individual is interviewed in the home by the individuals who live there. This is sometimes done in a formal interview, or often will be done as an observation of the interaction occurring between the applicant and the people in the home. As with all aspects of our services, the people supported are responsible for the direction of our hiring decision.
